Phoenix Pulse Young Driver’s Program-Celebrity Showdown Episode 1
Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc. and Tuason Racing’s goal to discover fresh and new talents on and off track continues on it’s 3rd year with Phoenix PULSE’s Young Drivers’ Program-Celebrity Showdown happening this June and July.
Being a homegrown brand and a successful Filipino story, Phoenix is, once again, showing its support to Filipino talents with this latest project.
With e-sports consistently gaining attention here in the Philippines, Phoenix as a brand shares a similar identity with it—young, aggressive and growing. Those qualities enable the brand to produce winners whether it’s on-track or online, who will represent the country and bring pride to the Filipinos.
“Phoenix has always been a dynamic Filipino brand eager to empower local talents. As a homegrown business that has become a formidable multi-industry brand, we want to harness our platform and invest resources to replicate in others the same growth that we have achieved,” said Celina Matias, Vice President for Integrated Marketing and Strategies. “We’ve been a fervent supporter of the Philippine racing industry, and not even the pandemic has been able to stop us from sustaining this cause. This year is no different as we adapt this project to current realities, while also making it more exciting than before,” she added.
Now on its third year, the Phoenix PULSE Young Driver’s Program aims to search for the new Phoenix PULSE e-sports driver who will represent the Phoenix PULSE Racing Team during the Formula V1 Virtual Cup later this year. The team will also feature a celebrity, which will be determined in The Phoenix PULSE Young Driver’s Program-Celebrity Showdown, a web-based reality show that will show 8 celebrities and influencers compete in different challenges. The winner, proving that stars can shine in the racing scene too, will be declared as Phoenix PULSE’s newest team recruit.
“The Phoenix Pulse Young Driver’s Program-Celebrity Showdown aims to highlight this new arena of racing in e-sports. We wanted to show through celebrities and influencers what it takes to be an e-sports racer. The skill, the discipline, and the determination needed to be successful,” said JP Tuason, Tuason Racing’s Chief Executive Officer.
The celebrity line-up consists of actor-heartthrob Marco Gumabao, Miss World Philippines 2019 Michelle Dee, tween actor Joshua Dionisio, hotshot influencer Kim Baranda, actor and Hashtag member Vitto Marquez, Tiktok star Simon Javier, popular gamer-streamer Cherizawa, and actress and TV Host Patricia Reyes.
To be broadcasted every Friday at 8pm starting June 11, through different online platforms, the show promises pulse-racing action, drama, and more as they watch the celebrity racers compete in different online and on-track activities to prove that they deserve to be part of the Phoenix PULSE Racing Team.
Five episodes will be broadcasted on Phoenix Petroleum’s Facebook page at facebook.com/phoenixph, via Instagram through @phoenixfuels, and on the LIMITLESS app, a digital lifestyle rewards program which can be downloaded on the App Store, Google Play Store, and the Huawei App Gallery. It will also be shared on Tuason Racing’s social media accounts; facebook.com/tuasonracing and @tuasonracing on Instagram.
The Phoenix PULSE Young Driver’s Program-Celebrity Showdown is made possible through Phoenix Petroleum, LIMITLESS, FamilyMart, GITI-Philippines in cooperation with Clark International Speedway, and Apex Sim Racing, with special thanks to Peugeot Philippines and Tuason Racing.
Another racing team that created a buzz in the local racing community is the Growl-Thule Racing Team.
Formed last 2018, this team quickly proved that they’re a force to be reckoned with.
Celebrity-turned-Promotional class driver Jinno Rufino put the team to success when the Team Growl-Thule Racing team had its first championship award in the last Toyota Vios Cup leg, the Toyota Manila South Circuit in Filinvest.
Rufino put the Growl-Thule Racing car 1st on the grid for the promotional class and kept his lead throughout the race. He was able to hold off other promotional class drivers at bay in the very technical street circuit.
After a successful podium finish, Growl-Thule continued to make waves as a racing team.
The Growl-Thule Racing Team had a hectic 2019 as they competed in two series simultaneously: the Giti-Formula V1 Challenge’s Pro Class and the Vios Circuit Championship’s flagship Sporting Class. The team’s hard work was rewarded with two overall wins to their name, with Grow-Thule’s Jussi Hoikka and Red Diwa’s successful campaigns played out in similar circumstances during a very competitive season of racing.
Jussi Hoika
From Round 1-3, Jussi Hoika showed his consistency and constant points finishes throughout the season, which was the crucial difference, while Red Diwa proved that he could manage to bag a win for the series. Diwa also admitted that consistency also helped him to show that he can still be a mighty fighter on the race tracks.
Growl-Thule drivers proved that consistency is the key during an entire race season. Driving as hard as possible to climb up another place is always tempting for any racer. Still, each driver’s experience has taught them that finishing a position down, securing the points, and going for steady overall progress in the table is more competent than eliminating yourself while going flat out.
Throughout the racing events Tuason Racing has organized, we continue to discover more teams on the race track. Another group that we were able to see flourish is the Frontrow Racing Team.
Frontrow International, a health and wellness and events company, entered the world of automotive Racing with their debut at the first round of the Formula V1 race back in 2018.
The outcome of the team’s first foray into automotive Racing was a success, as they finished second solid overall in a field of 15 Formula V1 cars. It was a motivation to the newly-minted racing team to be a team to look forward to in future racing events.
Driving the Frontrow-Foilacar Formula V1 race car is a veteran racer, Don Pastor.
Pastor, who flew into the country to compete in the Formula V1 Series, is all praises for the Frontrow race car because of its lightweight construction and suspension set-up. The car performs very well on fast corners and straight-line acceleration. Competing in the V1 for the Frontrow-Foilacar team is a good off-season practice for Pastor as well.
According to Pastor, This wouldn’t be possible without their team principal Sam Versoza and team manager Lester Codog who allowed him to race in this series.
Fast forward to 2019, Frontrow Racing joined the race once again with one of the most recognizable faces on the Giti-Formula V1 challenge grid, Raymond Ronquillo.
Ronquillo admitted that he felt a lot of pressure during the race, especially knowing that sponsors Sam Versoza and Frontrow Racing Team give full support to his Racing. Frontrow even got a British race engineer to check his faults and to get faster lap times.
But everything was worth it for Ronquillo, as it turned out as an eventful season for him and the whole team.
Frontrow Racing may be new on the race tracks, but they continue to surprise the racing community in more ways than one.
